The former riding of Chatham-Kent was held by Progressive Conservative Darcy Mc Keough from 1963 to 1978, when he retired from politics.Mc Keough held a number of cabinet posts under the governments of John Robarts and William Davis.
It is bordered by the ridings of Essex to the south, Lambton-Kent-Middlesex to the west, and Elgin-Middlesex-London to the north.
Pat Hoy took the area for the Liberals in 1995, when the riding was known as Essex-Kent.
The district was re-organized as Chatham-Kent-Essex in 1999, and Hoy’s hold continued through three more general elections. In the 2011 general election, the PC Party stepped into the void with Rick Nicholls.
Population: 105,579 (2011 census; a decrease of 3.6% since 2006) Liberal Pat Hoy, who was elected to a fourth term in 2007 by an 8,415-vote margin, is not seeking re-election.
